🗓️A macro calendar for your stocks: what moves the market this week
🗓️ A macro calendar for your stocks: what's moving the market this week
In a nutshell
On the QMA dashboard you'll find the "This Week" overview — upcoming US macro events for the next 7 days (FOMC, CPI, NFP) linked directly to your stocks and accompanied by sector-sensitivity notes. It's for orientation and preparation, never an instruction to buy or sell.
🔰 Super simple
The market occasionally has a "big day" when an important economic number drops — like how much inflation rose or how many new jobs were created. These numbers can swing prices across the whole market in the short term.
The "This Week" card tells you in advance when such a day is coming and which of your stocks are usually most affected. Instead of being caught off guard, you know ahead of time what's on the horizon.
It's like a weather forecast for your portfolio — it doesn't tell you what to do, but it warns you that a "storm" or "calm spell" is approaching.
How it works
QMA tracks three main types of US macro events:
- FOMC — meetings of the US central bank (the Fed), which decides on interest rates. Rates affect the cost of money across the entire economy.
- CPI — the Consumer Price Index, i.e. a measure of inflation. It shows how fast prices are rising.
- NFP — Non-Farm Payrolls, the number of newly created jobs outside agriculture. It measures the strength of the labor market.
Crucially, the overlay is personalized — it links events to your portfolio and watchlist. On top of that, it adds sector-sensitivity notes:
| Event | Typically sensitive |
|---|---|
| FOMC | REITs (real estate) and banks — rates are pivotal for them |
| CPI | Consumer and retail stocks — inflation affects spending |
| NFP | The market as a whole — economic strength |
🎯 For advanced readers
Sector sensitivity is a general contextual guide, not a rule. REITs and banks have historically been more sensitive to rate decisions because their business depends heavily on the cost of money. Consumer and retail names react to inflation data because it hints at how household purchasing power will evolve. NFP is a broader signal about the state of the economy and touches the market broadly.
The overlay gives you a time frame — you know a more volatile window is expected. What you do with that information (whether to simply keep an eye on the news, or nothing) stays entirely up to you. QMA does not propose any specific action.
How to use it in QMA
- Open the dashboard.
- Find the "This Week" section.
- Review the upcoming events for the next 7 days.
- Note which of your stocks are highlighted for a given event and what the sector-sensitivity note says.
- Fold it into your preparation — ideally do this every Monday, so you know what the week holds.
💡 What this means for you
You don't have to manually comb through macro calendars and decode what applies to your specific names. QMA links it to your portfolio and presents it clearly. You get peace of mind that big events won't surprise you — you know in advance when the market could get busy. It's a tool for awareness and preparation, not for deciding on your behalf.
FAQ
Does it tell me whether to sell before FOMC?
No. The overlay is purely informational. It contains no buy or sell instructions.
What if my stocks don't "care" about a given event?
Then their sensitivity is low. The sector notes are general and indicative, not a guarantee of any reaction.
How far ahead can I see?
The next 7 days.
Does it cover European or other data?
It focuses on key US macro events (FOMC, CPI, NFP), which have the largest global impact on US equities.
